Deskripsi
After Charles Darwin proposed evolution through selection as an explanation of the diversity of life, in The Selfish Gene Richard Dawkins expanded it by introducing the concept of ââ'¬Å"the selfish geneã¢â'¬Â which states the evolution of living beings can be explained as an attempt by genes to defend self-interest, that is, to survive as long as possible and spread as widely as possible, in the form of copies, through generations-generations of living beings. Why among animals is found cooperation, upbringing, even self-sacrifice? At first glance it's all hard to align with the idea of evolution as ââ'¬Å"the fight for lifeââ'¬Â. The concept of selfish genes is present to explain it, as well as other cases such as the existence of social insects and the effects of genes that can surpass the body of their owner. But gene is only one example of a replicator, something that can make a copy of itself. Dawkins proposes the idea of another replicator, who is not in our cell but rather inhabits human reason: memes. Memes are various units of human ideas and cultures that can be contagious, multiply, influence human behavior, and behave evolutionarily such as genes that compete with each other to survive and breed. Genes and memes shape and control our bodies and behaviors and the world, and this book makes it easy for us to understand both.
