Pope Francis quite emphatically stated that the laws of the Church have a pastoral purpose. That is, church laws are made and applied in the interests of the faithful, and are intended for the maintenance of faith, not for the sole benefit of the Church. The statement further asserts that the law must be understood and then applied within the pastoral horizon. The title of this book needs to be understood in that horizon, and is expected to invite readers to dive deeper into the soul of church law. It is hoped that, by recognizing the soul more, its application will also further revive the faith of the people, not turn off. Several themes were chosen to show how the soul permeates all things. The topics covered are those that are often presented to the author, in addition to the issue of marriage. This book does not address the issue of marriage at length. The topic of marriage discussed in this book (intermarriage between religions and domestic violence) speaks more about how to apply the legal spirit of the Church in practical matters. Other topics may seem theoretical, but they need to be understood to underlie practical applications.
