This time, I'd like to discuss a book titled "The World Called Children" by Kim Soyoung. This book is written by a reading teacher with 20 years of experience as an editor for children's books. In this book, she shares her struggles as a reading teacher, such as how to choose which books to read in her class. Additionally, she shares her confusion about answering her students' questions. As a teacher, she has the responsibility to address the children's curiosity, but she is concerned that many topics may not be appropriate for children. She argues many interesting topics related to children with a unique approach. In each argument, she introduces her own childhood stories and how they impacted her as an individual. This makes us, as readers, feel that we get to know her better as a person. She then adds her observations of her students in the reading class. Additionally, this book criticizes social phenomena and assumptions about children. She discusses public space policies that are discriminatory by forbidding children from entering certain areas. She also challenges the assumption that children these days don't love playing, don't have friends, and prefer playing video games. From her observations of her students, she notices that children love playing and often invite their friends to join. Moreover, she argues that many social campaigns seem to care about children but lack attention to detail. One important lesson from this book is that we need to understand that children are individuals. They have self-respect and their own thoughts. Just like adults, children can also feel worry and fear. Each child has a personality shaped by both innate traits and their surroundings. This realization highlights the diversity among people. From reading this book, I feel that I now understand a bit more about why children behave in certain ways. If you want to learn more about the world of children, give this book a try.
